The Galaxy A Series is Samsung’s budget and mid-range smartphone line. It includes starter models, ideal for basic use, and higher-end phones for everyday tasks.
You can expect a vibrant AMOLED display, speedy chipset, versatile camera setup, fast wired and wireless charging, and future-proof connectivity features like 5G. Some models are also available in a premium design.
1. Super AMOLED display
The Galaxy A Series features a Super AMOLED display with millions of individually backlit pixels for stunning clarity and deep contrast. Its high brightness levels and low power consumption make it energy efficient, while its superior colour accuracy provides more vibrant colours and deeper blacks.
Stream, game and scroll on our largest A Series display to date, with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate and Vision Booster for immersive viewing. Water, dirt and dust won’t dampen your day either with an IP67 rating and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus Plus on the front and back.
All A Series models have a powerful processor and fast wired and wireless connections for speedy multitasking and smooth gaming, while RAM and storage options are expandable to fit your lifestyle. You’ll also get an impressive camera setup, fast charging tech and long battery life with a dedicated SIM slot. The A series smartphones with a number higher than 30 are suitable for basic use, such as Instagram and YouTube, but may slow down when running demanding games or 3D apps.
2. Adaptive Fast Charging
Samsung’s Galaxy A series brings high-end features to the mid-range market with a focus on affordability. This includes the latest in mobile technology like 5G connectivity & Adaptive Fast Charging.
Adaptive Fast Charging increases the voltage of chargers to allow more current to flow into the battery faster. This reduces charging times and keeps your device cool. This is done without compromising safety or battery longevity.
To get the most out of this feature make sure you use a QC 2.0 or higher compatible charger. A 15W Adaptive Fast Charger is ideal but any charger that supports USB Power Delivery of 18W or more will work fine too.
If you want to keep your phone cool while charging you can also switch off Adaptive Fast Charging in the Settings menu. This will only allow the battery to charge at a set rate until it reaches its maximum capacity. The phone will then switch to a lower charging rate. You can find this setting by going to Settings and then choosing the battery option. Activating this will also disable Samsung’s Smart Charge technology which is used to protect the battery.
3. Fast wireless charging
Samsung has introduced the fast wireless charging feature on its affordable mid-range Galaxy A Series devices. This allows you to charge your device with no need for USB-C cables or Thunderbolt ports — as long as the case does not contain magnetic or metal attachments or is thicker than 5mm.
The Galaxy A Series is a great choice for consumers looking for a well-rounded smartphone with instantly recognizable looks and high-quality hardware at an affordable price. It also provides a solid option for power users, thanks to its impressive battery life and powerful 5nm Octa-core processors.
The Galaxy A Series has seen some improvements with the 2021 lineup, including a more geometric design and improved cameras. The lineup is the first to include 5G models, and it also dropped the headphone jack in favour of a hole-punch display and increased RAM and storage options on some of the models. Moreover, the A01 Core became the second ultra-budget model in the series to offer a 120Hz display. This year, the Galaxy A series shifted to Qualcomm SoCs in the United States from the previous generation’s Exynos offerings and began including ingress protection on some of the models.
4. Dual-camera
Whether you’re looking to capture every moment or create stunning portraits, the Dual-camera feature in the Galaxy A Series is your solution. This innovative technology uses dual cameras to blur the background of a picture while keeping the subject in focus, giving it a bokeh effect.
Samsung has also introduced the new Object Eraser and Filter features to their camera app, which make it easier than ever to edit your photos. They’re a great way to improve your shots and share them with friends.
As for performance, look for a model with 8GB of RAM for smooth multitasking. It’s more than enough for running apps like Instagram, YouTube, and light games like Candy Crush.
You can also get a high-speed 5G connection with the Galaxy A models that offer it. This hyperfast connection makes streaming, gaming, and video calling a breeze. Just be sure to check the model number and type of 5G it supports before buying. Some models are only available with specific types of 5G connections. For example, the Galaxy A5 and A8 only support 2G connectivity.
5. Samsung DeX
Samsung DeX is a desktop-like feature that transforms a compatible Galaxy mobile device into a PC. It’s built into many of the latest phones and tablets and works with a monitor, an HDMI adapter and peripherals.
You can connect a wired keyboard and mouse to your phone or tablet through a DeX-compatible USB hub, or use a wireless Bluetooth keyboard and mouse (depending on the model). The DeX interface resembles ChromeOS, with apps grouped into toolbars that you can resize and manage. There are also standard app-switching shortcuts and mouse cursor control functions.
The system can replace your computer if you do simple work like email and social media, but it won’t handle advanced productivity software. Samsung has promised that future versions of DeX will improve on this limitation.
