The New York Institute of Technology (New York Tech) has announced a three-year, $1 million grant from the IDC Foundation to establish the IDC Institute for Design Research and Innovation at the School of Architecture and Design.
The initiative aims to advance architectural and design education, which encompasses the school’s labs and centers on the Long Island and New York City campuses. Specifically, the grant will enable the institute to allocate resources for labs, including the purchase and maintenance of machinery, equipment, furniture, and computers; graduate assistants, researchers, and scholars; research and special projects; and advanced digital skills workshops. In addition, the funding will help leverage emerging technologies to foster innovative activities such as AI-driven design exhibitions and prototypes, faculty publications, “hackathons” and design competitions, AI workshops and tutorials, symposia and forums, emerging technology research fellowships, cross-disciplinary collaborations, and public events.
With the most recent gift, the foundation, which is a legacy of the Institute of Design and Construction, has awarded New York Tech more than $4.2 million.
