Hilton Head Island woman uses phone SOS system to call for help during attack

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, Sc. (WTOC) – Saturday, July 5th, near a busy Walmart in Bluffton, a 28 year old woman was ripped from her car and punched in the face.

The Beaufort County incident report states that the 28-year-old was heading to work.

WTOC has chosen to keep her anonymous for safety reasons as no suspect has been arrested.

The woman told police she was driving down Bluffton Parkway when she noticed a car incredibly close to her. She says that she was on the phone with her father who told her to pull into Walmart which works out, she said, because she had already planned on going to Walmart to pick up a few things. She turned towards the entrance and noticed that the car that was trailing her was still there, this time honking his horn.

She says she ended up parking on a backroad behind the Walmart due to lack of parking options. She didn’t see the car, so she says she didn’t think much of it. According to the report, the man, whom she had seen in traffic, ripped open her car door and began trying to pull her from the car, punching her in the face in the process.

She told police that she was able to get to her phone and use the SOS emergency button that sent help her way, it was only then that the man up and left.

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and said they could see visual marks and her lip was bleeding. Now, they are looking for the man responsible for it.

The man is a tall black man around 6’2 with a bushy beard that reaches the middle of his neck. He is believed to be driving a black, older model Volkswagen.
