A person serving a jail term after he was convicted for ganja peddling allegedly swallowed a mobile phone, inviting one more case against him.

Doulath alias Gundu (30) approached the jail staff on June 24 this year, stating that he had been suffering from stomach pain after he swallowed a piece of stone. The staff took him to the McGann hospital. Upon proper examination, the doctors noticed a foreign body in his stomach and recommended a surgery.

He underwent surgery and the doctors found a mobile phone measuring one inch in width and three inches in length. The doctors handed over the mobile phone to the jail authorities on July 8. The next day, Shivamogga Jail Superintendent P. Ranganath filed a complaint with Tunga Nagar Police in Shivamogga against Doulath. The police have registered the case on charges of carrying the prohibited article inside the prison.

Shivamogga district court convicted Doulath in a case related to drug peddling in June 2024. He has been sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment.
