“The Corolla is renowned for its reliability, with a rating of 4.5 out of 5.0 from RepairPal, making it Number One out of 36 compact cars,” Calkins said.
It also locked in J.D. Power’s top award for dependability this year, “driving” the point home even further.

Honda Accord

For buyers in the market for a midsize car, the Honda Accord consistently ranks well.
“The Accord’s reputation is built on its powertrain reliability,” notes Leon Huang, of car part manufacturer RapidDirect. “Even as more electronics are added, Honda’s approach to modular, serviceable systems helps preserve reliability.”
Sure enough, the Accord took the number one ranking for midsize cars out of 24 models ranked by RepairPal.
Buick Envision

Surprised to see an American car model top any reliability lists? So were some experts. Alan Gelfand, auto expert with German Car Depot, gives credit where it’s due.
“The 2025 RepairPal rankings placed unexpected domestic models including the Buick Envision among the top vehicles,” he pointed out. “General Motors improved vehicle reliability through their approach of streamlining powertrains and reducing trim-specific components.”
Nor is RepairPal alone in their praise. The Envision snagged the Best Overall rating among compact SUVs by J.D. Power.
Lexus GX 550

Among luxury SUVs, the Lexus GX 550 shines on both the outside and under the hood.
“It’s not high tech but it’s a tank,” explained Alex Black of car research platform EpicVIN. “Solid V8 engine, body-on-frame construction, no frill technology that might malfunction.”
Sure enough, J.D. Power awarded it the top award for dependability among midsize premium SUVs.
Subaru Crosstrek

Another highly reliable SUV, RepairPal awarded the Crosstrek its number ranking in the category.
“The 2025 redesign addressed some of the previous shortcomings, and it’s performing well,” added Black.
Consumer Reports also ranks it as one of the most improved models when it comes to reliability.
For those looking for a station wagon rather than an SUV, consider the Outback. Subaru topped Consumer Reports’ latest list of most reliable brands, and Huang likes the Outback among station wagons.
“The Outback benefits from solid mechanical symmetry, and features highly reliable welded assemblies for its subframes — key for rough-weather performance over time,” he noted.
