You don’t have to be a mobile industry watcher to predict the Samsung Galaxy Note series is dead. The phablets with massive displays and bundled S Pen stylus are officially out of stock.
The move isn’t surprising considering Samsung focuses on foldables in its flagship lineup. The company believes these devices are the future of smartphones.
Galaxy S
Since 2009, Samsung has been using the Galaxy S brand to identify its flagship phones. The lineup also includes Galaxy Tab S tablets. The Galaxy S series is considered to be the premium line of Android smartphones from Samsung and has a strong brand image that helps it compete against rivals like Apple’s iPhone.
This model was Samsung’s first Galaxy S phone and used the Android OS version 2.1. It was a very thin device at just 9.9mm. Despite its size, the display was very large at four inches. The device also included a 1 GHz processor and was one of the first mobile devices to support 720p HD video playback.
The Samsung Galaxy S series of smartphones includes several variants with different specifications. There are the standard S series, the S Plus series and the Ultra series (since 2022). The company also offers a foldable Galaxy Z series. Samsung also has a Galaxy Core series, the Galaxy Trend and the Galaxy A series for mid-range smartphones. The Galaxy Mini and the Galaxy Note series are high-end phablets that include an S Pen stylus.
Galaxy Note
Samsung’s Galaxy Note smartphones introduced a new, large-screen class of Android phones that straddled tablet and smartphone functionality. It was a major success that helped accelerate the larger-screened smartphone trend that became mainstream in the mid-2010s.
The Note phones have a special pen input method, called the S Pen. Based on Wacom digitizer tablets, the stylus lets you use pressure to select different parts of the screen. This is helpful for digital scrapbooking apps, note-taking, and even handwriting math formulas.
T-Mobile’s Galaxy Note runs Samsung’s rendition of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with its TouchWiz UI on top. This makes the phone look a little dated, but it offers a fast-loading app experience and allows you to transfer URLs, contacts, and other info with another compatible Galaxy Note phone via NFC.
The phone also has a 5.3-inch HD Super AMOLED display that looks bright and colourful and can play back high-definition videos smoothly. It has 16GB of storage for apps and media and can accept up to 32GB more through a microSD card.
Galaxy Gear
The Galaxy Gear is Samsung’s flagship wearable. It’s a smartwatch with notifications, GPS and a cellular connection. It can receive text messages and incoming phone calls, with a display that lets you tap a notification for full view. It can also send quick responses via a microphone (i.e., “I’ll talk to you soon” or the fairly useless, “Yes”)—but it can’t take dictation.
The original Gear runs Android, but the second generation replaced it with Tizen. While that means less app availability, Google’s own Android Wear will eventually make its way to the Galaxy Watch.
The Galaxy Core/Grand series is an entry-level series that was merged with the online-exclusive Galaxy J in 2019. It succeeded by the new Galaxy A and Galaxy M series. The Xcover series is a gged business phone with low specifications. The Note series was a high-end series that featured the S Pen stylus for writing and drawing. It was dropped in 2021 in ifavour ofof the new Galaxy S series with the S-Pen as an optional accessory, and the foldable Galaxy Z series with the S-Pen as an integrated component.
Galaxy J
The Galaxy is Samsung’s main smartphone and tablet lineup, running Android with the TouchWiz or Samsung Experience/One UI skin. It’s one of the most popular smartphone brands of all time, surpassing Apple’s iPhone in terms of total sales and holding a large chunk of the global market share.
The Samsung Galaxy J series are entry-level smartphones that feature a 32-bit Android OS. The devices were first introduced in 2015 and were meant for emerging markets. The phones were later replaced by the Galaxy A series in 2021.
In recent years, the Note line turned into a redesigned Galaxy S device with some Note features and the S Pen as the primary selling point. As such, the Note’s death was inevitable.
Stay connected longer with the Samsung Galaxy J’s high-capacity battery. With Ultra Power Saving Mode, the phone shuts down unnecessary functions to help you extend your battery life by up to 50%. The phone also supports fast charging to give you a quick boost when needed. Enhanced Octa-Core processor and 2GB RAM keep productivity at optimal levels, while up to 400GB expandable storage4 lets you store critical data or large programs wherever you go.
Galaxy X
The Galaxy X is a device that has long been in development, and it looks set to revolutionize the smartphone space. The concept is a two-in-one phone and tablet, a similar model to the two-in-one laptop tablets that have dominated the personal computer market in recent years.
Samsung has been closely associated with outstanding display technology, and it makes sense that this would play a key role in its foldable Galaxy X phone. In addition, the company’s subsidiary company Samsung Display is a leading producer of phone-sized OLED panels.
The Galaxy X has been expected to debut sometime this year, with reports suggesting that it will be a flagship alternative to the existing Galaxy S and Galaxy Note premium phones. However, Samsung’s cautious approach to new technologies is causing some to believe that the Galaxy X will initially be released only in its native South Korea. This would allow Samsung to test the market’s reaction to this innovation before rolling it out across the globe. This is likely a sensible plan for any company that is working on new technological innovations, as many products suffer issues in the early stages of their rollout.
