Infinity Flex Display
Samsung’s foldable phone has been in the works for a while now, and the company finally showed off its engineering prototype at this week’s developers’ conference. It features a flexible Infinity Flex Display that can flip open to offer a tablet-like experience and close like a book for easy portability.
The device’s outer screen looks fairly normal, but the inner screen is a bigger, tablet-like 7.3 inches. To make the most of this unique layout, Samsung worked with Google to create an interface designed for folding phones. This new App Continuity feature will allow apps that are open on the smaller Cover Display to instantly carry over onto the larger Main Display when you unfold it. You’ll be able to multitask with up to three active windows on the larger display, too.
To keep the phone thin and durable, engineers had to develop a whole host of new components. They had to reinvent the panel’s protective layer, reimagine how the hinge works and even use a different adhesive to ensure it holds up in both folded and unfolded modes. It’s a lot of work, but Samsung says the result is worth it. The Galaxy Fold is expected to be released early next year, and the company is inviting Android app developers to start working on support for the device’s unique interface.
App Pairing

Continuity features make it possible to seamlessly switch between devices, so you can continue working on a tablet and pick up where you left off on your phone or vice versa. To enable this feature, both Galaxy smartphones and tablets must be running One UI version 3.1 or higher and have Bluetooth turned on. The Galaxy Buds Pro must also be paired with both phones. This feature works best when both devices are signed in to the same Samsung account. If you get a call while watching a video on your Galaxy tablet, the audio automatically switches to the phone.
